Board of Management statement regarding our school building
"Our building on Limekiln Road is shared with Setanta Special School, while they await the construction of their new school in Stillorgan.
When we moved into this building - our permanent home - in 2016, Riverview Board of Management was informed that the sharing arrangement would be in place for 18 months to 2 years. Setanta School should have moved into our building on Limekiln Road in 2018, and then into their new school by 2020. It is now 2023, and the Setanta new build has just gone on site.
Riverview occupies only 4 classrooms in the main building. We are a nine classroom school with an autism class and 231 children on roll. As our school grows we are in a constant race to provide the minimum class space needed for our children. We have three pre-fab classrooms on site and are in the process of having two more prefab units installed at the moment.
A school is much more than bricks and mortar.
Riverview has a vibrant energy, an enormously committed and creative staff, and continues to be a centre for high quality education. The Board of Management wishes to publicly express its view, however, that it is entirely unacceptable that our children and staff are working in these conditions, and that the responsibility for this lies squarely with the Department of Education. We welcome any advocacy on our behalf to your local and national representatives, to help improve the situation we find ourselves in."
